Beta-alanine is an amino acid that helps boost exercise performance.
Beta-alanine is a non-essential amino acid that's produced naturally in the body. It encourages the production of carnosine, a protein building block that plays a role in muscle endurance, exercise stamina, and performance. That's why we included it in Re-Lyte Pre-Workout.
When you exercise, your muscles turn glucose into lactic acid. Lactic acid makes your muscles more acidic and this acidity causes the fatigue and muscle soreness you typically experience after a vigorous workout.
But the carnosine produced by beta-alanine is known to guard muscles against acidity, which can keep your muscles feeling good rather than fatigued. That may be why studies in cyclists and rowers found that beta-alanine supplements can increase the amount of time it takes to become exhausted by 13 to 14 percent.
When taken in doses over 2 grams, beta-alanine can cause tingling and itchiness. It doesn't happen to everyone, but if it happens to you, don't worry. It's harmless and should start to fade within 30 minutes.
