You can mix and match Re-Lyte products, as long as you keep track of how many electrolytes you’re getting from your Re-Lyte regimen.
A lot of our customers like to mix and match Re-Lyte products, and that's totally cool! Just make sure you keep track of how much of each electrolyte you're getting from your Re-Lyte regimen. Here's the tolerable upper intake level (the maximum daily amount you can take without negative effects) of each of the electrolytes in our Re-Lyte products for adults:
- Sodium: No Tolerable Upper Intake Level (UL) is set for sodium because there's very little evidence that sodium causes toxicity in healthy people, even at very high doses. The Chronic Disease Risk Reduction Intake (CDRR) is set at 2,300 mg daily. But this isn't necessarily based on hard evidence. In his book The Salt Fix, Dr. James DiNicolantonio provides substantial research demonstrating that up to 3,000-5,000 mg of sodium per day is safe for many people (we recommend checking that book out if you haven't already).
- Chloride: 3,600 mg
- Magnesium: 350 mg (this UL is for supplements only and doesn't include what you're getting from food. It's nearly impossible to get too much magnesium from food).
- Calcium: 2,000-3,000 mg (depending on age)
- Potassium: No tolerable upper intake level (UL) has been set for potassium either. Research shows the risk for adverse effects is low in healthy people for up to 5,000–6,000 mg from food sources and up to 3,000 mg from potassium supplements.
If you stay below these levels (make sure to factor in any non-Re-Lyte-related sources of electrolytes you get each day), you shouldn't experience any adverse side effects from taking Re-Lyte products. Of course, we always recommend checking with your doctor or another trusted healthcare pro to make sure the level of each nutrient you're taking is healthy for you. Everyone's situation and body are different!
