Celery seed comes from wild celery. Its tiny seeds are ground into a powder and most often used to make celery salt, which is typically two parts salt and one part celery seed. In our Real Salt Organic Seasonings, we combine pure celery seed with spices like salt, black pepper, turmeric, and other spices to create bold, complex seasoning blends.
Celery seed, unsurprisingly, tastes like celery! Unlike ground mustard or coriander, whose flavors vary from their plant producer, celery seed delivers the same great aromatic sensation as its mother plant. Some people believe celery seed is slightly bitter or even spicy due to its natural astringent properties. Celery seed also contains a variety of nutrients, including calcium, zinc, manganese, iron, magnesium, and phosphorus.
